HISTORY

RAF was formed on 11 December 1991, with its head office in New Delhi. It came into operation on 7 October 1992, to deal with riots taking place, controlling the crowd, rescue and relief operation and related unrest. On 9 November 2013, the Rapid Action Force academy of public order was established in Meerut.

ORGANISATION

RAF is headed by an inspector general of police (IGP)functioning at New Delhi. The RAF is divided into two parts headed by DIGP at New Delhi and Mumbai. Uniform of RAF is a distinctive uniform with a blue coloured Camouflage pattern that symbolises peace. Its purpose is to"serve humanity with sensitive policing".
