Justice Naheed Ara Moonis

Justice Naheed completed her graduation in Law from Allahabad University in the year 1983.

She later enrolled herself as an Advocate on August 18, 1986 and started her practice. She advanced her practice of law in civil and criminal matters at Allahabad High Court.

She was appointed as the Special Counsel in the year 1991 till 1994.

She was also appointed as an Additional Government Advocate in 1997 and again was appointed as Additional Government Advocate-I in 2004 and she held the office of the same till her elevation as Judge of the Allahabad High Court in 2009. 

Ms. Moonis has been a very prominent member of the Legal Fraternity and her work is highly looked upon for learning and guidance by the member of the legal fields.

She was appointed as the Judge of the Allahabad High Court on April 13, 2009 and she took the oath as Permanent Judge on December 24, 2010 and is serving the office since then.

Justice Naheed along with Justice Smita Agrawal is also the member of the “Internal Complaints Committee”, which was set up by the Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court in accordance with the provisions of Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2015. Being the member of the committee she had worked very hard in dealing with the matters associated with harassment of women at workplace and helped in making workplaces suitable for women as that is for the men. She promoted and endorsed various norms and suggested changes that can help making workplaces acceptable for women.

Her appointment as the Judge of the Allahabad High Court is highly remarkable as the office held by female judges is relatively very less in India contrary to the share of men. She has worked extensively in the due course of practice of law and her service as judge as well.

She has benched in various well known cases such as of Bulandshaher violence, UPPSC exam paper leak, Sonakshi Sinha’s cheating case and many more.

She is running her office as Judge of Allahabad High Court since April 13, 2009 and will continue till her retirement which is due on December 07, 2021.
