TERRA NULLIUS

Terra Nullius is a Latin term meaning nobody’s land. The doctrine of terra nullius is observed under international law, justifying the position of a state after they occupy land which comes under the dimensions of the principle of terra nullius. Principle of terra nullius is often compared to a Roman law term res nullius which means nobody’s thing.

Several states have already made claims to several portions of Antarctica in the former part of the 20th century. However, the East side of Antarctica is still ‘nobody’s land’.

The territory of Bir Tawil between the Egyptian and Sudanese border is still terra nullius.

Croatia and Serbia often have disputes over small areas, one of which is Gornja Siga the largest is not claimed by either country since Croatia recognizes that it belongs to Serbia, but Serbia doesn't claim them.
