The offering, giving or receiving anything of value which influences the action of an individual while discharging his/her duties is called giving bribe. When an individual offers to give something in order to get his work done or to get more advantage over the other person, that something in the scenario is called a bribe.
Every human always wants to have more power or advantage over the other person in a particular thing, whether that is business, elections, to cover illegal transactions, etc. When someone who has power asks for payment against certain actions, that person is said to have a peddling influence. No matter who initiates the act of bribery, both the parties to that act can be independently found guilty and charged for that crime.

Under Section 166 of the Indian Penal Code, if any public officer does not do what he is required to do in his official capacity then he would be punished.
For eg: If X is asked to seize A’s property, but X shows favor to A by asking for something in return as bribe, then he can be made liable for punishment under this section.
Under Section 7 of the POCA Act, 1988, if any public servant accepts or even agrees to accept any remuneration other than the legal reward, he is entitled to show favor or disfavor to any person then he would be liable under this Act for an imprisonment up to 3 years which may extend up to 7 years and a fine.
There are special judges at the Center and at the State level appointed to try cases that are related to bribery and corruption. The new generation should be made aware about the different ways bribes are offered and given, they should also be made aware about the evils of this practice and should be warned against being indulged in such practices.
