It means “friend of the court”. The person is not a party to the case in any manner. His sole purpose is to assist the court by providing substantial information or insight for the smooth disposal of the case.
This doctrine basically dictates the courts to look at the similar judgments under similar circumstances that have been passed.
Binding precedent are those judgments, decisions or judicial precedents which all the lower courts have to follow.
A codicil must be executed similar to Will, being written and attested by two witnesses. Further, as a codicil is a part of the Will, reference must be made to the Will in interpreting the provisions of the Will and vice-versa.
