Panel Discussion on ‘Marital Rape-A Legal Dilemma’

The Centre for Research in International and Comparative Law is an initiative of Maharashtra National Law University, Aurangabad, devoted to the study of comparative and transnational laws and legal systems. It embraces analytical, theoretical, empirical and socio-legal attempts surrounding the public and private law aspects of various legal systems and aims to encourage comparative legal studies in the transnational context of legal history, theory, philosophy, legal cultures and traditions, by tracking the developments in the field across the world.

About the Panel Discussion

The theme of the session will be “Marital Rape- A Legal Dilemma.”  The topic has been chosen keeping in mind the relevance of the issue in the present scenario as well as the legal and societal dimensions of the same.

About the Panellists

Dr. Tamanna Khosla

Tamanna Khosla is a teacher of multiculturalism and feminism. Having done her Ph.D. from Jawaharlal Nehru University, she is at present Assistant Professor, department of political science, in Delhi College of Arts and Commerce. She has also worked as research associate in research institutes such as JNU, WISCOMP and CSR and has contributed subject-specific articles to several newspapers and journals.

Prof. Sarasu Esther Thomas

Prof. Thomas holds BA.LL. B, LL.M, and PhD degrees from NLSIU Bangalore. She has been a faculty member at the University since 1997. She was appointed as Assistant Professor in 1999 and as Associate Professor in 2012.

Her areas of specialization include Human Rights Law and Family Law. She coordinates the Centre for Women and the Law and the Human Rights Lawyering Project, and is the Chief Editor of the National Law School Journal.

Ms. Isha Singh

A student of Cathedral and John Connon School, Isha Singh graduated from the National Law School of India University, Bengaluru in 2018 and worked as a lawyer focusing on public interest cases. The most notable case she won was a case for relief of Rs 10 lakh each for the wives of three manual scavengers who died cleaning a septic tank. She fulfilled her childhood dream and qualified for the Union Public Service Commission examination in 2021. Currently, she is IPS Probationer.

The session will be moderated by Ms. Aishwarya Pandey, the 5th-year student at MNLU-A
