Institute of Law was set up under the aegis of Nirma University in the year 2007 with a vision to promote excellence in the field of legal education and to fulfill the ever-increasing demand for quality legal professionals for a growing legal world.
The Centre for Energy Law, Policy and Strategy (CELPS) seeks to provide a venue for scholars and practitioners to engage with energy-related law, policy, and strategies through conferences, workshops, lecture series, discussion forums; and its research papers and database.
It shall host symposia collaborating with eminent scholars and legal practitioners from the energy sector. The Centre envisions deliberations with leading practitioners and academicians on contemporary and recent issues of energy law, policy, and strategies.
The Centre aims at encouraging research and publications and focuses on providing a platform for student training and professional continuing education, which would constitute a significant contribution to their career development.
Energy sustainability is not just an opportunity to transform societies and grow economies, it is also a necessity – a prerequisite to meet growing energy demand in many parts of the world and to reduce the global carbon footprint.
In order to build a strong basis for prosperity and competitiveness, individual countries must balance the three core dimensions of what Oliver Wyman and the World Energy Council have defined as the energy trilemma: affordability and access, energy security, and environmental sustainability.
With this aim, the conference aims to promote and brainstorm ideas on how to maintain a balance between security, affordability, and sustainability in accessing and using energy in our daily lives. The discussions and brainstorming will be to identify the legal issues involved in dealing with energy trilemma, exploring legal solutions for the same, and chart out a roadmap of legal steps in resolving the energy trilemma through legal means which is a major task before the international community in general and the developing countries including India, in particular.
The Conference is planned to be a platform for the congregation of experts, managers, policymakers, academicians, students, and researchers to brainstorm and suggest ways to find viable and workable solutions for solving the vexing problems of security, affordability, and sustainability of generation and consumption of energy for the welfare of the mankind.
