Line on the border and the line in our minds: ASSESSING INDO-SINO BORDER DISPUTE

AN INTRODUCTION

The MacMohan Line is witnessing a lot of tensions for the last few days. In most clear terms, the situation as of now is of a tight face-off between the armies of the most populated nations on the globe.

These tensions have not spurred out at an instance but have been soaring up for years after and before the Indo-Sino war in 1962.

The two sides of the line are narrating their own stories, China claiming that it is just a normal border movement while India is diplomatically handling it as if it were a movement of retaliation. The real truth about the movements is though hard to establish amidst the already existing pandemic and comity crisis with China.

As of today, India has positively heard from the big powers about the support they would garner upon India if the tensions escalate, but whether it is a move for India or a setting for the next World-War as the so-called media houses claim is a moot point that I as a law student, you as a diplomat, sociologist, journalist, or most importantly an ordinary citizen is putting your minds into.

To critically conclude the journalists' idea about this border issue, and to answer what is China's destination, we will have to know the path it has walked on to reach its current site. In addition to this, the scope of politics is another answer that we will be searching for.

PLACES TO HALT AT

Moving back towards the trail of the events up to January 2020, poses the need for the investigation into Nepal-India dispute, Nepal and China's relations, the road built by India on Line of Actual Control (LAC), Belt-Road initiative of China, the USA- China dispute, Indian Military posture, and the G7 Presidency and India's called nomination, etc.

CURRENT FACE-OFF

Mutual apprehension at both sides of the line has given tough stand-offs and the reports suggest that China has begun settling its military forces in early May in the territory named by India as its, but claimed by China as otherwise. In all this, the undisputed fact is China's prior agreement for the territory to be Indian, and thus, triggering the research into the intention and motive of China's military movement. India has deployed its forces in defense and as claimed by the Home Minister Shri Rajanath Singh, India is READY.

TAKE-HOME POINT

Indeed, China does not consider India to be its primary strategic competitor but the changing South-Asia policy of China, the growing campaign of it against India, declaring India as an “ambitious wolf” and at the same time alluring India for its declining economy, coupled with China’s history of adjusting the strategic directions and that of solving contradictions in a secondary direction first, rather than the contradictions in the primary direction, poses a threat.

We will be analyzing each of the resting places to provide the readers with insight that would help them decide on the moot point for themselves. Stay connected to read into our ideas.
