Law school is quite competitive. Excelling in your law school requires your time, efforts and dedication. Well, there is no other profession which does not ask for all these. However, you, among others, have successfully qualified for the admission in your concerned college, and it is also possible for you to get topped among others. As a law student, it is equally an essential part of your job to understand how you should study and allocate your time in such area which maximizes your chances and success in the class. Excelling your law school with good grades ultimately increase your chances to get selected by a top law firm. It’s always good to plan, ahead. Hence, Study in such a way and on that content, which will ultimately help you in your specific career path. For example, if you want to specialize in matrimonial cases, then you better spend your time studying Family Law.

Below are ten and most important "P's" which you should consider and follow to excel in your law school.


  1. Pay attention in the class: The very first thing to do is to pay attention in the class. It is a scientifically proven fact that you are likely to remember for a long time what you hear more than what you read. Some ignorant student attends classes to comply with the rule of minimum attendance, and either they surf the internet in class or just gossip with their fellow mates. You are paying such a significant amount on tuition fees, so why not utilize it in the best possible way.


  1. Prepare your notes: Write down the points while attending lectures or reading any case laws, judgement etc. and ask yourself what you have learnt from such topics and how can you relate this with other similar cases. Summarize it in your language.


  1. Participate in discussion: The more you discuss, the more you are likely to learn new things. Discuss on contemporary legal issues or judgements with your friends or lecturers. Make an initiative in your group to shift from gossips to current news. Students who participate in discussion tend to learn more than those who show up to the classroom.


  1. Plan your study time: The field of law provides a diverse and vast acquisition of knowledge that there aren't enough hours in a day to cover all. But taking baby steps is quite enough to learn. Prepare a timetable in such a way or manner where you can work on case briefing, preparing outlines and everything else you need to succeed in your studies.


  1. Professor’s feedback: Don’t hesitate to go to your professor and ask for his feedback. After obtaining, scores in your exams get your exam sheet reviewed by your professor so that you know where you need to improve in future.


  1. Practice and solve previous year question paper: Well, if you want to stand ahead of your mates, then you need to prepare well. Don't wait till you complete your syllabus, instead of practice those questions or topic which you have already made.


  1. Presentations: Presentations are essential. You know, the law is a profession where you need to present your case before the court, and for that you need confidence. If you lack confidence, then this profession is not for you. You have a chance at your law school to develop this skill without being judged. If you give your presentation well, then you not only start to build confidence, but you have a chance to get into the eyes of your professor, and perhaps this might help you in scoring good marks.


  1. Participate in moot court competition: Moot court provides you with immense knowledge and practical aspect of the legal system. Participating in moot court makes you familiar with the proceedings that generally takes place in real courtrooms. Moreover, it helps to build your confidence in communicating your view Infront of others.


  1. Practical experience: Internships are a compulsory part of the academic curriculum. Participation in moot court is not enough; one must intern under an experienced attorney. Law internships provide a first- hand experience in the legal profession and give a chance to look close to the day to day responsibilities that comes with being an attorney. Well, many students do a lot of internships to add that on their CV. Still, one has to realize that when it comes to the selection of an associate, an attorney gives more preference to one’s knowledge rather than the number of internships that they did. 


  1. Put a stop to procrastination: Putting things off that supposed to be done today leads to a problem in future. There are many distractions, nowadays leading to procrastinating. It is always better to complete your work in advance, keeping enough time to review it. So, get off your WhatsApp or Instagram and complete the work that you have been putting off.
