Implement Provisions of Transgender Act: Karnataka HC to State Government

As interim relief to the Writ Petition 8511 of 2020, Karnataka State government has been directed by the respective High Court to implement the decisions of Supreme Court given in the Case of National Service Authority vs Union of India, which directs the state and Union Territories to treat Transgender as educationally backward and take all other steps to provide them with all sorts of reservations.

In the present writ petition, it is stated that the advertisement for Special Reserve Constable Force as well as Bandsman was released. Still, there is only male and female as an option in the gender category, and it has not provided the third gender as an option. It is contented to be a violation of fundamental rights provided under Article 14, 19 and 21and also of the judgment of the Supreme Court as it has recognized the rights of the third gender.

The court has ordered the government to file an affidavit in court on 29th September concerning steps taken regarding the compliance of the order of the court and the next date for the hearing is given on 1st October.
